BANGOR – Elizabeth M. “Bette” Reed, 70, wife of the late Lowell Reed, died May 25, 2008, at a local hospital after a courageous battle with heart disease. She was born Sept. 14, 1937, in St. John, New Brunswick, the daughter of James and Edna (Eagan) Simpson. Bette was a devoted, hardworking, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She worked for K-Mart for many years. She enjoyed her grandchildren, visiting with her children, families and friends. Everywhere Bette went she was sure to recognize an old friend or someone she had met at K-Mart. She loved her job and made many friends through the years. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph Reed and his wife, Shari, of Bangor and Daniel Reed and his fiance, Lauren Kendall, of Bath; sister, Marilyn Brown and her fiance, Cuffy Walker, of Grand Lake Stream and her daughter, Darlene; and several grandchildren, Heather Reed, Deanna and Monica Reed and Christopher Newcomb. She also leaves behind many relatives, cousins, nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Carol-yn Bennett, Sheila Geaghan and Barbara Matthews, whom were all very dear to her. Bette lived at Edward Ernest Manor, enjoying her friends there, all of whom were very kind to her. Her cat, Buffy, will sadly miss her. Bette was a very unique woman with a zest for life that will never be matched. She will always be with each and every one of us in our hearts and memories. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her oldest son, Richard “Rick” Reed. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, Catholic chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, officiating.
