BREWER – Elizabeth M. “Betty” Parlee, 72, wife of Robert E. Parlee Sr., died Nov. 21, 2003, at a Brewer healthcare center after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Bangor, the daughter of John T. and Kathleen (Wood) McGuire. Elizabeth was a 1949 graduate of John Bapst High School and attended Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nursing. She worked at EMMC and Sears & Roebuck for several years. Elizabeth was a resident of Brewer Rehab & Living Center, Brewer, for 21 years, where she battled MS, an illness that prevented her from enjoying much of life’s experiences with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 53 years of Brewer; four children, Robert E. Parlee Jr. of Bangor, Kathleen R. Thomas and her husband, Travis, of Holden, Mary Ellen Pooler and her husband, Richard, of Brewer, and Mark Parlee and his wife, Kimberly, of Brewer; six grandchildren, Derek and Karen Parlee, Glenn and Ryan Thomas, Gregory and Andrew Pooler; three great-grandchildren, Brendon Parlee, Makayla and Evan Thomas; two aunts, Virginia Shand of Brewer, and Isabelle Smith of Brunswick. She will be remembered by two special friends, Carlene Gallagher of New Hampshire, and Dolores Hainer of Hampden. Services will be private.
