BAR HARBOR – E. Tyler Proctor Jr., 80, of Bar Harbor, died in the Mount Desert Island Hospital on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003. He was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Bar Harbor, the son of Everett Tyler and Lillian (Chase) Proctor. After graduating from the Bar Harbor High School in 1942, he attended Heald College in San Francisco, Calif., and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served overseas with the Naval Advanced Base Unit at Noumed, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal and Bougainville. From the Navy Repair Base at San Diego, Calif., he was assigned to the USS Belle Isle and went to Okinawa and Yokosuka, Japan. He was discharged in February 1946 from Boston, Mass. On Aug. 18, 1946, he married Charlotte Ellen Brewer of Bar Harbor. He built their own home, worked as a custom home builder and a custom wooden boat builder. His wooden boats have been sold all over the United States. He was a member of St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, having served on the Vestry and other committees. He was a former director of the MDI YMCA and a former member of the Bar Harbor Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 57 years and their children, E. Tyler Proctor III and Anna Chase Proctor; and a grandchild, Elizabeth Ellen Proctor; his sister, Mary Cantwell and her three daughters, Linda, Jane and Patricia. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Jonathan Appleyard and the Rev. Edwin A. Garrett III officiating.
