BENEDICTA – Elliott “Skip” Rogers, 68, died peacefully, May 23, 2006, after a good life and long retirement spent on Plunkett Pond in Benedicta. Skip was born in East Patchhogue, N.Y., June 5, 1938, the son of William and Elsie May (Elliott) Rogers. Skip worked as a machinist for Fairchild for a number of years, and then became a precision fiberglass technician working on airplanes and boats. He received woodworking honors at his high school graduation. Skip moved to Maine in the mid-80’s after many hunting and fishing trips to the area. Skip made friends easily with his kindness and knack for interesting conversation. He liked taking rides in the woods, and was especially fond of birds and waterfowl. He built a cozy life at his cabin on the pond, and will be sadly missed by many friends and neighbors. He is survived by one brother-in-law, Walter Hilland of Bay Shore, N.Y., and many, many friends. Skip was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Barbara and Shirley. A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2006, behind St. Benedict’s Church in Benedicta, followed by a gathering at his camp on the East Shore of Plunkett Pond. Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
