BANGOR and CHERRYFIELD Elmer “Bud” V. Parker, 83, of Bangor, form-erly of Cherryfield, died Tues-day, Dec. 18, 2007, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Sept. 29, 1924, on top of Willey Hill, Cherryfield, the son of the late Hoyt W. and Cora (Tracy) Parker. Buddy attended public schools of Cherryfield, the upper corner school, the Grammar school and graduated from Cherryfield Academy, Class of 1941. He also attended the University of Alabama in the summer of 1943 as an A.S.T.P. student in the engineering department at Tuscaloasa, Ala. After high school graduation, he worked in Massachusetts and was inducted into the U.S. Army, “A.V.S.,” March 5, 1943. He served in the Continental U.S. and the Asiatic – Pacific Theatre of Operations; trained with the 80th Infantry Division; and served as replacement in the 37th and 77th Division, to occupy Hokkaido in September 1945. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant at Fort Devens, Mass., Feb. 24, 1946. Buddy Parker was a charter member of Down East Post of VFW, life member; life member and post commander of American Legion Post No. 8, Cherryfield; past master of Pleiades Lodge No. 173, Milbridge, for two different terms; high priest of Dirigo Chapter No. 39, three different terms; district deputy grand master of 3rd Masonic District for two years; master of Milbridge Grange No. 291 for two years; secretary of the, then, Washington County Fisherman’s Extension Service for two years; and served as president of Cherryfield Alumni Association in 1991, his 50th Anniversary. Buddy retired with 29 years of service from Maine State Liquor Commission, in 1985. He shared 60 years of marriage with Arlene (Tibbetts) Parker of Milbridge. In addition to his wife, family members include three children, James W. Parker and wife, Susan, of Veazie, Patricia A. Parker of Ellsworth, and Beverly J. Prickett and husband, Michael, of Bradford. Bud has been blessed with nine grandchildren, Michael Parker and wife, Jennifer, of Northport, Jeffery Parker and wife, Joelle, of Holden, Jonathan Parker and wife, Jenni, of Veazie, Bevi-Jo Pinkham and husband, Richard, of Milbridge, Rebecca Rumery and companion, Danny Walker, of Prospect Harbor, Donald Rumery and wife, Kimberly, of Florida, Travis Noyes and wife, Kersten, of Veazie, Katrina Noyes of Bangor and Michael Prickett of North Carolina; 19 great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Thomas, Emilia, Joseph, Jacob, Abby, Kohle, Noah, Megan, Matthew, Drew, Bryan, Damian, Danny Jr., Donald Jr., Amanda, Parker, Hannah and Madison; two sisters, Marguerite Lappa of Pennsylvania, and Dorothy Leighton of Machias; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also survived by a very close friend, Robert “Skip” Willey of Bucksport. He was predeceased by two brothers, Hoyt Jr. and Kenneth; and two sisters, Laura Parker and Berneta McIntire. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
