BELFAST – Elner P. Philbrick, 96, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at a Belfast hospital. Born Oct. 22, 1909, in Waldo, she was the daughter of George E. and Junie (Wentworth) Payson. She was a graduate of Crosby High School, Class of 1927. She attended Beal Business Collage in Bangor in 1928. On Oct. 22, 1929, she married W. Ralph Philbrick. She was associated with her husband in Philbrick Hardware store in Belfast. She was employed by Acorns Apparel Shop of Belfast for many years. Elner was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was active in the Sunday school and had served as a Deaconess, and treasurer for more than 20 years. She was a life member of Primrose chapter No. 152 O.E.S. in Belfast and a former member of the Belfast Historical Society. For many summers she volunteered at the Belfast information booth. She was predeceased by her husband and a daughter, Jeanne Curtis; two sisters, Velda Clark, Elvie Billings; and a brother, Erlon “Bud” Payson; a half-brother, Edward Payson. Survivors include one son, Gary P. Philbrick and his wife, Rachel, of Belmont, four grand daughters, Denise E. and husband, Mark Maheu, Darcy J. and husband, Rob Butler, Lori A. and husband, Andrew Passett, Lynn M. and husband, Gary Messier; one grandson, Thomas R. Curtis and his wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah and Melissa Messier, Tobiah and Isaac Passett, Jack Maheu, Tommy and Tynan Butler. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the First Baptist Church in Belfast. Interment will be in the family lot at the Paul Cemetery in Waldo. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the repair fund of the First Baptist Church, or the Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, P.O. Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915.
