STOCKHOLM – Elsie Marie Haley, 79, died June 1, 2007, in Fort Kent. She was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Stockholm, the daughter of John and Anna (Larson) Sjostedt. She attended Stockholm Grade School, was valedictorian of the 1945 Class at Caribou High School and was also a graduate of Smith College. Mrs. Haley received her Ph.D from Purdue University. In 1953, Elsie Marie was selected as Miss Stockholm USA, and had the honor of traveling to Sweden, where she was privileged to meet the King of Sweden. She taught social rehabilitation classes at Assumption College, Worcester, Mass., for many years. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Haley of New York City and Charles Haley of Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Richard Sjostedt of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Beatrice Page of Stockholm; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haley was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Stockholm Cemetery with the Rev. James Morgan officiating.
