TRESCOTT – Francis Elliott Denbow, 88, died June 2, 2007, at a Lubec nursing home. He was born May 16, 1919, in Trescott, the son of Everett and Bertha (Mitchell) Denbow, on the Denbow Homestead, Dixie. Francis was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Earning a bronze service star in the Asiatic Pacific theater campaign, he viewed his service in the military as both an honor and an experience that he carried with him throughout his life. He retained his ties to the military and with others that served as a member of the VFW Parkinson-Vose No. 3315, Lubec. After his discharge from the Army, he worked at the American Can Co., then educated himself in the trade of carpentry, gaining admiration of his skill and reliability from both locals and beyond. Francis was an accomplished member of the Dixie Baseball Team. As he grew older he continued his love for baseball, never missing a night to watch and root for “his team,” the Boston Red Sox. An avid outdoorsmen, Francis spent many a day hunting, fishing and camping. His knowledge of the area was so vast that on occasion local game wardens sought his assistance to help find lost men in the woods. Above all else, Francis was a man who was and will always be loved by his family. A husband, father, grandfather and great-grand-father, he worked to make a good life for his family and he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois (Pressley) Denbow; a daughter, Jean Mills; a grandson, James Mills and his life partner, Jennifer Smart and their children, Michael, Jeremy and Nikki; a granddaughter, Eleody Libby and her husband, Jeffrey and their children, Haley, Ethan and Thomas; a special nephew, Douglas Denbow and his wife, Mona; a special niece, Shirley Campbell and her husband, Bill; a brother, Lewis Denbow; and a sister, Avis Malloch. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven brothers, Lester, Ronald, Julian, Earle, Hollis, Phillip and Beverly; two sisters, Edith Kinney and Florence Sawtelle. Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec, at a later date.
