ROBBINSTON – Elton Roy Brooks, 89, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Calais Regional Hospital. Eltie was born July 11, 1915, in Needham Hghts., Mass., son of the late Adam “Roy” and Mary “Etta” (Nash) Brooks. He retired from the Maine State Highway Department where he was employed as a Road Construction Foreman and was instrumental in building the boat landing in Robbinston, a beautiful facility enjoyed by all. Eltie grew and harvested Christmas trees in the area for many years. He loved the great outdoors, was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping and snowmobiling. Eltie was a long time member of Maine Trappers Assoc. and the National Trappers Assoc. He especially loved hunting bobcats with his favorite dog Ranger. Eltie was an avid Red Sox fan and stuck by his favorite beloved team. He was overjoyed when they finally won the World Series. Eltie will be remembered as a quiet and gentle man and always ready with his quick wit to crack a joke or tell one of his fishing, hunting or trapping tales. His generous heart was always ready to help anyone. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Eltie touched so many lives with our realizing it. Eltie, you will forever be in our hearts. May our Lord hold you gently in his arms, “Rest in Peace.” Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Ellen (Diffin) Brooks of Robbinston; a son, Gregg Elton Brooks and his wife, Patricia, of Newington, Conn.; two special grandsons, Steven and Larry Brooks, both of Connecticut; two brothers and their wives, Ivan and Esther Brooks of California and Clifton and Norma Brooks of Robbinston; two sisters, Helen Hayden of Calais and Lois Teague and her husband, Gene, of California; a sister-in-law, Irene Diffin and a brother-in-law Wally Diffin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Eltie was predeceased by two sisters, Grace and Betty; a sister-in-law, Ethel Drew, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Diffin. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, at Brewer Cemetery, Robbinston, with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his memory be made to the Robbinston Historical Society, care of Mary Ann Duvall, 11 Maple Lane, Robbinston, ME 04671.
