BELFAST and PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Elva L. Monroe Webber, 83, passed away Jan. 4, 2005, at her home in Belfast. She was born Nov. 11, 1921, on Isleboro, the daughter of John R. and Bernice L. (Tasker) Monroe. Elva graduated from the Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nursing in 1943 and was a Registered Nurse all of her life. She married Richard S. Webber Aug. 3, 1947 in Monroe. She was an avid Bridge player, created Japanese Bunker and loved to travel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfast, Swanlake Assoc., Waldo County General Hospital Ladies Aid, Port Charlotte Cultural Center, Law Enforcement Assoc. and was a lifelong Democrat. Elva was predeceased by her husband, Richard, in 1990; her parents; her first husband, Henry Sibley Marden; a grandson; Melvin William Libby III; a stepgrandson, Allen Redmond and a son-in-law, Floyd Redmond. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Marden Redmond Gowen and her husband, Ed, of Greenland, N.H., Ann Webber Hooper and her husband, Kenneth, of Searsport, and Gail Webber Anthonis and her husband, Ed, also of Searsport; a granddaughter, Linda Hanusek and her husband, John, of Dayton, ME, three stepgrandchildren; Ed Anthonis III and Jessika Anthonis, both of Searsport, and Bruce Redmond of Sebago Lake; two great-grandchildren; Ryan and Leah Hanusek; several nieces and nephews in Belfast; her traveling companion, Gwendlyn Stratton; and a wonderful neighbor, Katie Harmon. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at Rackliffe Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Harmony Place Cemetery in Monroe at a later date.
