EDDINGTON – Elva-Jean Smith, 61, died Oct. 3, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 15, 1942, in Bangor, the daughter of Joseph A. and Yvonne Chase. Elva-Jean worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center for the last 11 years as a PBX Operator. She was an avid quilter and knitter and was involved in several groups with the most important being the Maine Quilter’s Association. In her younger years, she loved the out of doors and nature. Elva-Jean enjoyed writing short stories and poems. In addition to her father, she is survived by her loving husband, of 39 years, Richard C. Smith, of Eddington; a son, Richard J. Smith, and wife, Nancy, of Millville, N.J.; a brother, Joseph L. Chase, of Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Anna Marie Darling, of Old Town, and her special granddaughter, Sydney Kaylan Smith. A service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett officiating.
