BANGOR and STEUBEN Margaret Jane S. Moore, 76, wife of H. Dyer Moore III, died Oct. 5, 2003, at an Ellsworth hospital. She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 29 of this year. Margaret Jane was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 2, 1927, the daughter of Albert Franklin and Gertrude Mae (Judge) Schnee. She graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls and the Philadelphia College of Art, majoring in illustration. During her association with Gimbel Bros., and the opening of the King of Prussia Mall, she coordinated exhibits on professional, amateur and student levels. In partnership with her husband, they owned and operated the Brandy-wine Bookshop and Gallery in West Chester, Pa., for 12 years. Before moving to Maine, she had a working studio under the registered name of “Green House Prints.” Margaret Jane owned and operated her own interior design company, Moore House Interiors, of Bangor, for more than 25 years. Her work can be appreciated throughout New England. For the past seven years, she had been restoring their home in Steuben. She was a member of Conferences and Institutes Division Faculty of the University of Maine; St. John’s Episcopal Church and served as president of the Women’s Guild; a member of the Athene Club; an honored member of the Altrusa Club of Bangor; served as chairman of the American Cancer Society, Daffodil Days during the first years of observance. She had been active in numerous civic affairs including the YWCA, the restoration of the Farrar Mansion; Bangor Historical Society; community concerts; Symphony Women; Art Society and was a board member of the Maine Center for the Arts; and the Penobscot Valley Garden Club, where she had served as editor of the quarterly newsletter. Surviving in addition to her husband, H. Dyer Moore of Steuben are daughters, Meg, of Lansdale, Pa., Kathie of Cape May, N.J., Libby Niles of Bangor; five grandchildren, David, Dyer, Henry, Heidi, and Dakota; and one great-granddaughter, Samantha Rose. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kevin Holsapple, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Bangor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., immediately following the service Wednesday.
