BAR HARBOR – Elvira Anderson passed away Aug. 31, 2005, at Sonagee Nur-sing Home in Bar Harbor. She was born and raised in Venice, Italy, where she would later meet and marry her husband of 50 years, “Andy” Anderson, at the end of World War II. She was known as “Lolly” to most, and affectionately as “Moma” to many in Bar Harbor. Lolly was a dedicated wife to her husband, a career officer in the Army, and equally dedicated to her three sons. She enjoyed her life in the armed services, which included several overseas postings, and the social life of the officer’s club, where she loved to play Bridge, eventually becoming a sought-after life master and teacher. Sociable and vivacious, Lolly loved people and people loved her. She was a superb cook and the driving force behind “Il Giardino” a very popular Bar Harbor restaurant and nightspot run by the Andersons in the 70’s. Lolly and Andy (Andy passed away in 1998) were gracious hosts to an appreciative crowd while the three sons played dance music. Lolly and Andy were popular guests at Mount Desert Island parties and she enjoyed musical evenings at her home, the Jordan Pond Gate House, with her family, friends and sister Guigi. She was big-hearted, generous, dedicated to her family and friends, and always there to feed anyone hungry. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Guigi, in Venice; her three sons, Richard, Anthony, and Michael; daughters-in-law, Karin, Suzanne and Fayelle; and grandchildren, Caterina, Christopher, Brianna, Jonathan and Francesca. A memorial service is planned for the fall. <
