HOULTON – Elwood H. Scott 77, died Sept. 2, 2004, at South Portland Nursing Home, where he received except-ional and loving care. He was born Dec. 26, 1926 at Hodgdon, the son of Winfield and Edna (Brown) Scott. Elwood attended Hodgdon High School and Ricker Classical Institute. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Korea. He graduated from Aroostook State Normal School, received his B.S. from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and his masters degree in Administration from the University of Maine at Orono. He taught at and was principal of Blaine Grammar School, Littleton Consolidated School, Houlton Junior High School, becoming the principal of Houlton High School until his retirement in 1986. He served on several State Principals’ Association committees and was most proud of his work in the Dollars for Scholars program. After his retirement, he worked for five years for the U.S. Immigration Service in Houlton. He attended the Houlton United Methodist Church. Elwood enjoyed stamp collecting, playing cribbage and bridge, athletics, hunting, fishing, golfing, bumper pool, working around the house and gardening. In his retirement years, he enjoyed his time spent as a member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks. He is survived by two sons, Jeffery Scott and his wife, Carol and their sons, David and Patrick, all of Lyman, Gregory Scott and his wife, Cindy and their children, Ryan and Whitney, all of Freeport; one daughter, Patricia Scott and her fianc?, David Ross, of Seminole, Fla.; two brothers, his twin, Ellery Scott and his wife, Virginia, of Lincoln, Jack Scott and his wife, Betty, of Hodgdon; two sisters, Joan Lindsey of Phoenix City, Ala., Geraldine Oliver of Hodgdon; his stepmother, Elva Scott of Houlton; a half brother, Lewis Scott of Littleton; stepsiblings, Richard Scott of Dalton, Mass., Betty Frazel of South Yarmouth, Mass., Ruth Porter of Houlton; two brothers-in-law, Ervin Putnam of Cary, Bernard Ross of Portland; one sister-in-law, Patricia Berkey of Chittenango, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily (Ross) Scott, two sisters, Phyllis Putnam and Iris Cookson. Friends may call from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Houlton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Naomi Sam’Kpakra officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
