DETROIT – Elwood W, “Pike” Parent, 85, died Dec. 2, 2005, at a Pittsfield hospital after a short illness. He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Newport, the son of John and Lillian Parent. He attended Newport schools and graduated from Newport High School. Pike was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II serving from 1941 through 1945. For more than 35 years he worked at H. P. Hoods in Newport. He enjoyed the outdoors especially when he was duck hunting with his son, trapping and bee keeping. He also enjoyed his small farm in Detroit. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Gordon and Debby Parent of Hampden, Ernald and Brenda Parent of Buford, S.C.; one sister and her husband, Emily and Arthur Sylvain of Winslow; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by special friends, Wayne “Buddy” Curtis and Verna Pease; and also missed by his best friend, his dog, Crush. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at the Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
