VAN BUREN – Emery S. Violette, 80, died March 11, 2004, at a Caribou hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Van Buren, the son of Vital and Estelle (Bosse) Violette. He was a graduate of Van Buren Boys High School and attended Husson College in Bangor. Emery worked for several years on the family potato farm. He also worked in the family grocery store as a meat cutter, purchasing the business in 1955 and operating it until 1970. He then went to work for the town of Van Buren as its General Assistance Administrator and municipal employee until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1635 of Van Buren and an honorary life member of the Fourth Degree Assembly 0349. Emery served on the Credit Committee of the Gateway Federal Credit Union for several years. He is survived by one son, Jeff Violette and his wife, Karen, of Brunswick; one daughter-in-law, Lynn Violette of Manchester, N.H.; three brothers, Robert Violette of Van Buren, Claude Violette of New Britain, Conn., and P. Eugene Violette of Edwardsville, Ill; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his special friends and neighbors, Gene and Linda Madore of Van Buren. Emery was predeceased by his wife, Philippa (Gagnon) Violette in 2001; two sons, Kenneth Violette and Philip Violette; one grandson, Kenneth Violette; one sister, Adelaide Lapierre; and by three brothers, Martin Violette, Elmer Violette, and Leo James Violette. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 12 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
