COLUMBIA FALLS – Emma Natalie (Pineo) Foss, 87, died Oct. 12, 2007, at a Jonesport health care facility. She was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Columbia Falls, the daughter of Fred and Lucy (Higgins) Pineo Sr. Emma was a graduate of Columbia Falls High School and Washington State Normal School. She taught elementary school for 26 years at Cape Split School, Centerville; Epping Grammar School, Cherryfield; Bradford, Whiting and East Machias. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher and a volunteer driver for Washington-Hancock Community Agency. For many years, she was part owner of Pineo Lumber Co. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Stanley P. Foss Sr.; two sons, Stanley Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, and Charles of Columbia Falls; a daughter, Ramona Phinney and her husband, Billy, of Milbridge; nine grandchildren, Robert, Randy, Richey and Rodney Foss, Rebecca Brooks, Renee McGuire, Rhonda Norton, Nicole and Chris Phinney; 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant sister, Marjorie; and brothers, Fred Jr., Ray, Joel, Morris and Norris. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Mailey Hill Cemetery, Columbia.
