HOULTON – Emmons A. Whittier, 102 1/2, died Feb. 27, 2006, at a local hospital. He was born Aug. 25, 1903, in Amity, the son of Leslie F. and Eva M. (Price) Whittier. Emmons was a member of the Houlton United Methodist Church. He worked as a contractor/builder in the Houlton area and erected the first of many homes on Hillview Avenue, as one of his biggest projects. Emmon’s first home, on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Robinson Street, was the Ash House, a historical site from the 1900’s. Emmons enjoyed conversing about his family and talked several hours per week with his daughter of Troy, N.Y. He reminisced about the earlier days of Houlton and shared much history to be passed on to his great-great-grandchildren. He would inquire first about the well being of each cherished family member, discuss any precious memories and always add a few humorous remarks to the conversation. He enjoyed each day to the fullest and when asked about his longevity, he would reply “When the Lord is ready for me, he will take me, until then, I will take it one day at a time.” He is survived by his daughter, Ethel W. Deeb of Troy, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Bonnie Fausel; two great-grand-daughters, Michelle Harden and Nicole Hataling; one great-great-grandson, Brian Francis Hataling; one great-great-granddaughter, Danny Leigh Hataling, all of New York; one nephew, Daniel Miller of Valrico, Fla.; and two special cousins, Tonya Corbett and Barbara Bossie, both of Houlton. Emmons was predeceased by his wife, Doris Mooers Whittier and was the last survivor of the Whittier Clan. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Dunn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Naomi Sam’ Kpakra, officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Gifts may be made in Emmons’ memory to the Houlton United Methodist Church, care of Dunn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 127, Houlton, ME 04730.
