STETSON – Erma Y. Underhill, 91, died Nov. 2, 2004, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born May 13, 1913, at Enfield, a daughter of Elwin and Emma (Johnson) Savage. She married William H. Underhill, April 28, 1931; and he predeceased her on Aug. 9, 1964. Erma worked as a cook for the Stetson School Department hot lunch program. Later she drove a school bus for her sister’s Stetson bus service. She also served as the tax collector for the Town of Stetson for many years. She was a past noble grand of the Lakeside Rebekahs in Etna, was a 50-year member of the Stetson Grange, a 50-year member of the Carmel Extension, and had currently been a member of the Golden Harvest Grange in Carmel. Erma was a devoted member of The Scallawags, and will also be remembered as an avid Beano player. She is survived by three sons, Everett and wife, Kay, of Stetson, Arthur and wife, Glenace, of Corinth, Ralph and wife, Nancy, of Newport; a daughter, Jane and husband, Michael Sherry, of Woburn, Mass.; a brother, Lucien Savage of Palmyra; a sister, Marion Knowlton of Bangor; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grand-children, 11 great-great grandchildren. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Burial will follow at Clark’s Hill Cemetery, Stetson. Memorial donations may be made to the Golden Harvest Grange, care of Mrs. Helen McDonald, R.R.
