CANAAN – Irma T. Graf, 80, of Canaan passed away at Woodlawn Rehab & Nursing Center, Skowhegan, with her family at her side on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004. She was born in Millinocket, Jan. 5, 1924, the daughter of John and May (McDonald) Tingley. Irma graduated from Millinocket High School in 1942. She married Reid M. Graf in 1953. Irma was a journalist for the Somerset Reporter and the Bangor Daily Newspaper for many years. She had a mail route delivering mail from Canaan to Skowhegan for five years. She served proudly as town clerk in Canaan from 1979 to 1994. She was a member of the Canaan Calvary Church; a member of the Canaan Fireman’s Auxiliary and was active in many town activities. Irma liked writing stories, cooking, watching old movies and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Donna Costello; a son-in-law, Elton Hurlbutt and very close friend, Sherrill Hunt. Survivors include three sons, John Graf and wife, Rita, of Canaan, Marshall Graf and Janie of Venus, Fla., Richard Graf and wife, Duska, of Canaan; three daughters, Joellen Williams and husband, Jeff, of Cornville, Julie Hurlbutt and companion, Phil Powers, of Lake Placid, Fla., Liza Ames and husband, Richard, of Canaan; 13 grandchildren, Jeremy, Teri, Bryan, Jennifer, Teah, Rachel, Luke, Logan, Dylan, Travis, Naudia, Barret, Morgan; 14 great-grand-children; a sister, Nadine Boddy and husband, James of Millinocket; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Canaan Calvary Church with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Canaan.
