DEXTER – Ernest L. Smith, 63, passed away peacefully April 21, 2006, with his family by his side, at Mayo Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Dexter, the son of the late Roland L. Smith and Josephine E. (Reynolds) Smith. Ernie worked for Dexter Shoe Co. for 27 years. Ernie is survived by his brother, Vertner Smith; and his beloved sister-in-law, Judy of Kissimmee, Fla.; and sister, Vivian Perkins of East Corinth; five children, Timothy A. Smith Sr. and wife, Valerie, of Dexter, Christopher S. Smith and girlfriend, Tiffany, of Dexter, Melinda J. Lawler and husband, Larry, of Fairfield, Ernest L. Smith II “Greg” of Belfast, Wynona J. Clements and husband, Jeff, of Monroe; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by special friends, Sarah and Roberta Parsons, and all that knew him. At Ernie’s request there will be a gathering of family and friends 1-4 p.m. May 6, at the home of his son, Tim Smith, 102 Spring St., Dexter.
