AUBURN – Ernest Llewellyn Cook, born June 9, 1927, died peacefully in his sleep at home at 20 Infiniti Way, Auburn, Sunday, June 12, following a long illness. Born in Auburn, he was the son of Ernest L. Cook Sr. and Mattie S. Sprague. He grew up in Leeds and Greene and was a graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner. On July 5, 1952, he married Marion Lois Shorey of Howland. They lived in Auburn since that time. Upon retirement, Ernest enjoyed the extensive vegetable and flower gardens at his Stetson Road home prior to relocating to Infiniti Way in 2001, where he brought many of his favorites. He also enjoyed fishing Lake Auburn with his friend, Harry. He was an active member of Court Street Baptist Church for many years where he attended faithfully up to a month before his death. He served on various boards and committees, including the Deaconate, Trustees, Van Ministries and the Boys Brigade where he was affectionately known as “Boots.” Ernest is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marion; and their daughters, Penny Jo and husband, Scott Richardson of Houlton, and Vicki Lynne and David Jacobs-Pratt of Auburn; grandchildren are Nathan and Jennifer Richardson of Greenville, S.C., Casey and Caleb Richardson of Houlton and Meghann and Jedidiah Jacobs-Pratt and Sarah Gagne of Auburn; Ernest leaves one sister, Arlene Gilbert of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents; two brothers, Osmond and Shirley; and one sister, Dorothy Cook Jordan. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fortin/Auburn. Funeral will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Court Street, Baptist Church. Committal will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Court Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Androscoggin Home Health.
