DANFORTH and EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – Ernest Wayne Colford, 79, entered into eternal rest Aug. 19, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Danforth, the second son of Frank and Lena (Maddocks) Colford. Ernie was a resident of East Hartford, Conn. for more than 50 years. He wintered in Brooksville, Fla., but was always happy to go “up home” to Danforth. Ernie was employed for 35 years for Pratt and Whitney and for several years by General Dynamics. He and his friend, Bradley, also worked many jobs in their younger years in Maine and Florida. He was a World War II veteran who served his country with pride in the Pacific theater. He was a true and loyal American. He is survived by his brother, Derryl and his wife, Carmen, of Bangor; his sister, Ruth “Sis” Kinney of Orono, whom he resided with the last weeks of his life; two sisters-in-law, Joan Colford of Danforth and Ruth Colford of Bangor; several nieces and nephews, Maureen Caristi, Marlene Susi and her husband, Frank, Rodney Colford and his wife, Janet, Linda Morse and her husband, Ronnie, Douglas Colford, Michael Colford and his wife, Linda, Sherrill Colford Jr., Dale Colford and his wife, Lori, Andrew Colford and his wife, Amy; his best friend’s son, Mitchell Irish and his wife, Katty; and all their families; his best friends, Phil and Carol Edwards of Connecticut and Florida, Bob Overbury of Florida and Peter De’Alesio of Connecticut. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Sherrill Colford; and his life long friends, Bradley and Isabel Irish. “He is at peace.” A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Danforth.
