AURORA, Colo. – Retired Master Sgt. Stanley Russell Doane, 94, died July 31, 2006, at Kindred Hospital, Denver. He was born Jan. 10, 1912, in Brewer, the son of Henry E. and Grace Dyer Doane. He was a graduate of Brewer High School and attended the University of Maine where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force at Lowry Field, Denver. He served in England during World War II and was assigned to the photography department. Photography had been a special hobby of his for many years before his enlistment. Stanley and Faye enjoyed their summer cottage in Estes, Colo., for many years. They made several trips to Brewer over the years to visit family members. They also enjoyed visiting the University of Maine campus. He was predeceased by his wife, Faye D. Doane Nov. 8, 2002; his sister, Rachel D. Bothwick; and brothers, George F. Doane and Gordon F. Doane of Brewer. He is survived by nephews, Franklin Bothwick of Bangor, Gordon John Doane of Fitzgerald, Ga., Gerald Doane of Orrington and Richard Doane of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nieces, Patricia Grant of Clifton, Barbara Werkowski and Frances Verow of Brewer and Cynthia Doane of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Barbara Doane of Brewer and St. Petersburg, Fla.; great-nephews, Gary and Alan Grant of Clifton and Todd Verow of New York City; great-nieces, Brenda Brooks of Brewer, Nancy Werkowski of Bangor, Sandra Thompson of Prospect, Lisa Cameron of Rockport, Julie O’Connor of Virginia Beach, Va., and Suzette Furrow of Bangor; also great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces, Steven Brooks of Brewer, Samuel Thompson of Prospect, Scott, Kristopher and Alana Gant of Clifton, Trudy and Lilly Furrow of Bangor and Abby O’Connor of Virginia Beach, Va. Memorial services are planned 11 a.m. Sept. 20, at the First Presbyterian, Aurora, Colo. Committal service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
