ROCKLAND – Ernestine “Tena” Bickford Davis, 91, died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Windward Gardens in Camden, after an extended period of declining health. Born April 23, 1915, in Prospect Harbor, she was a daughter of Ernest A. and Flora Wasgatt Wood. At age 14, she married Chester Bickford in Winter Harbor. During the 1940s the couple moved to Rockland, where they resided until Mr. Bickford’s death in 1982. At that time she moved to South Thomaston. She married Frederick R. Davis Sept. 22, 1985. Mr. Davis died in 2001. Tena was active in church work all her life and was most recently a member of the Thomaston Assembly of God. Flower gardening, knitting, crocheting and patchwork quilting were other favorite pastimes. Tena is survived by two daughters, Hazel Eaton and her husband, Albert, of Camden, Marcia Firth of South Thomaston; one son, Edward Bickford of Silver Springs, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Debora Levensailor and her husband, Michael, of Harpswell, Diane Fawcett of New Brunswick, Canada; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A graveside committal service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Brookside Cemetery, Winter Harbor. The Rev. James Heard will officiate.
