SOUTH PORTLAND – Ervin R. “Nick” Carter, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at his home. Ervin was born in West Levant, the son of Fred T. and Laura (Pullen) Carter. He graduated from East Corinth Academy. He was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 56, Brownfield and 32 degree Mason, Scottish Rites, Valley of Portland. He retired from Maine Central Railroad in 1978 – 33 years with Maine Central Bus Line and Railroad. He was predeceased by his wife, Elinor R. (Hatch) Carter of South Portland, March 26, 1994; and brother, Philip Carter. Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Ravenwood of Portland and Emily J. Carter and husband, Jeff Martin, of Montreal, Quebec; two grandsons, many cousins, a nephew, three nieces, along with many friends. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, Islesboro, in the spring. Arrangements made by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Islesboro Island Trust, P.O. Box 182, Islesboro, ME 04848.
