ELLSWORTH and STONINGTON – Esther May Bray, 87, died Sept. 23, 2004, at an Ellsworth nursing home after an extended illness. She was born May 17, 1917, in Lamoine, the daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Zelma Martin. During her life, Esther worked for the fish factories in Stonington. She also worked at the Penobscot Nursing Home in Penobscot and the Bragdon Nursing Home in Ellsworth. Esther sold Avon for many years and won several awards for her work. Esther live in the Stonington area most of her life until about seven years ago when she moved to Ellsworth. She loved to knit and crochet anything she could sell at various Christmas fairs all around. Esther also enjoyed her hen container collection of many sizes and designs. She is survived by a son, Ellis “Sonny” Young and his wife, Sylvia, of Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Donald Young of Columbia Falls, Roberta Young, and Darlene Spencer and her husband, Alan, all of Ellsworth; brother, Charles Martin, Jr. and his wife, Arlene, of Winterport; sister, Betty Martin of Old Town; sisters-in-law, Laura Martin of Bangor, Dorothy Martin of Levant, and Charlotte Martin of Kenduskeag; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; seven stepchildren and many step-grandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren. Esther was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Bray, Sr.; four brothers, Alton, Richard, Moris, and Donald Martin and a sister-in-law, Helen Martin. She was also predeceased, by only 27 days, a dear friend, Elizabeth Mae Bunker, of Ellsworth. When their health allowed, Esther and Elizabeth were usually seen together. Esther will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Visiting hours will take place from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Stonington. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the funeral home, officiated by Elder Dowe Eaton. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Oceanville.
