SEDGWICK – Ethel H. Byard, 96, Sedgwick’s oldest resident, holder of the Boston Post cane, died March 7, 2005, surrounded by her family at her son’s home in Sedgwick. She was born Nov. 11, 1908, in Brooklin, the daughter of Frank and Etta (Candage) Herrick. Ethel was a member of the Sedgwick Baptist Church and a member of the Harborview Chapter of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her son, Lawrence (Butch) Byard and his wife, Saralyn, of Sedgwick; a daughter, Sandra Hill and her husband, Richard, of Blue Hill; grandchildren, Allison Charles, Lisa Dauphinee, Elizabeth Ladd, Miranda Byard and Matthew Byard; great-grandchildren, Hazen, and Samantha Dauphinee, Nathaniel and Amanda Ladd, William and Katherine Charles; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Byard Walsh and Frances Byard; cousin, Dora Pickering; special friends, Marilyn Byard Reuter, Elsie Tucker and Tottie Billings; special niece, Catherine Allen; and other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald E. Byard in September 1982; son, Edward S. Byard in 1935; six sisters and five brothers. Spring graveside service at the Rural Cemetery, Sedgwick, will be announced at a later date.
