CLAIR G. ‘PETER’ SIDES SHERMAN – Clair G. “Peter” Sides, 68, died Sept. 21, 2005, as a result of a boating accident. Peter was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Houlton. He was the son of Gilbert and Madonna (Tozier) Sides. He graduated from Sherman High School Class of 1955, and he had recently attended his 50th class reunion. After obtaining his degree in automotives from SMVTI he served in the U.S. Army. He owned his own garage in Sherman Station for many years before retiring five years ago. He was known as the “MacGyver” of mechanics with the ability to fix and repair anything mechanical that others had long since given up on, determined to make it work. Although “Pete” had retired he still enjoyed keeping up on the most up to date technologies the automobile industry came out with. He loved to fish and ride 4-wheelers around his huge potato farm and the many acres of wilderness that surrounded their home. Having lived with Mt. Katahdin in his backyard, he was most proud of the fact he had climbed the mountain an astonishing 23 times. He leaves behind a loving wife of 44 years, Shirley (Pipes); and their two children, a son, Tim and his wife, Joanie, from Sherman; and a daughter, Paula and her husband, David Wilson, of Bangor; three grandchildren, Christopher, 21, Samuel, 18, and Olivia, 7, whom he enjoyed immensely; also a brother, Samuel of Orono. He will be sadly missed by all. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, with the funeral being held 2 p.m. Sunday, at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls with Elder Shane Reitze officiating. Followed by the burial which will take place at Golden Ridge Cemetery in Sherman.
