BUCKS HARBOR – Ethel N. Quimby, 92, of 1269 Port Rd., died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at the Marshall Health Care Facility in Machias. She was born May 27, 1913, in Machiasport, the daughter of the late Harrison T. and Emily O. (Blackwood) Holmes. Mrs. Quimby was a 1931 graduate of the Washington Academy. She furthered her education graduating from the Washington State Normal School in Machias. She was a member and past regent of the Hannah Weston Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, she was a member and corresponding secretary for many years of the Machiasport Historical Society, the Mayflower Society, Bucks Harbor Grange and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Bucks Harbor. Mrs. Quimby taught school in the Eastside School and the Starboard School both in Machiasport. She shared 48 years of marriage to the late Cecil E. Quimby who died in 1980. She is survived by a son, Gerald E. Quimby and his wife, Ann, of East Machias; eight grandchildren, Cecil N. Wood and his wife, Darlene, of Bucks Harbor, Nancy Sprague and her husband, Neal, of Larrabee, Jennifer Wilcox and her husband, Allan, of Roque Bluffs, Kathy Harmon and her husband, George, of East Machias, Kelley Cates and her husband, Greg, of Cutler, Billie LaMarre and her husband, Kevin, of Pike, N.H., Gerald A. Quimby and his wife, Carol, of Old Town, and Troy A. Quimby of East Boston, Mass.; 17 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Quimby Wood in 2001; a brother, Donald A. Holmes in 1998; and her beloved cat, Sam. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home.
