HOULTON – Eugene C. Spellman, 76, passed away Nov. 18, 2007, at Houlton Regional Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Littleton, the son of Clarence and Annie (Green) Spellman. He was most recently employed by Hannaford Brothers, Houlton. Every day of his illness he anticipated the day he could return to work. He loved the companionship of his co-workers and talking with the drivers that delivered to Hannaford. He had also worked at Smith and Wesson, and Putnam Brothers for many years. Gene was an avid musician who loved country music. He and Ruth often gathered with friends to play music and socialize. Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth (Hanson); three daughters, Darlene London and her husband, John, Judy Shields, all of Houlton and Angela Hagan and her husband, Fred, of South Portland; he enjoyed his four grandchildren, Melissa Shi-elds, Dustin Shields, Danielle Shields and Jeffrey Hagan; one great-grandson, Hayden Boody; and four sisters, Priscilla Clark, Phyllis Oliver, Patricia Spellman and Dorothy Farrar. He was predeceased by three brothers, Philip Spellman, Clayton Spellman and Fred Spellman. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Hatch and David Tuttle officiating.
