HAMPTON, Va. – Eugene F. O’Donnell, 68, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1937, in Fort Kent, the son of Thomas and Edna (LaPointe) O’Donnell. He attended Presque Isle schools and St. Francis, Biddeford. After completing his studies in Boston for a funeral director, he worked for funeral homes in Boston and Maine. In 1960, he relocated to Virginia where he worked at the Newport News Shipyard until his retirement in 2003. Gene enjoyed photography. He used many of his pictures for patterns in making stained glass pieces. His home showed his love for family, friends and for nature, shown in his stained glass. He also enjoyed cooking, entertaining and working in his gardens. The local hospice work was very important to Gene. He volunteered many hours. His constant companions were his two dogs. He is survived by five brothers, Howard and Pauline O’Donnell of Daytona, Fla., Thomas O’Donnell of Candia, N.H., Philip O’Donnell and companion, Ms. Bonnie Sabel, of Portland Ore., James O’Donnell of Naples, Fla. and Timothy and Carolyn O’Donnell of Crouseville; many nieces and nephews. Gene will also be missed by his two special friends, Mrs. Don (Susan) Epstein and James Witt. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Edna O’Donnell; and one brother, Patrick.
