EUGENE H. SCHMITT SR. WINTHROP – Eugene H. Schmitt Sr., 94, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, as a result of injuries suffered from a fall at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1911, in New York, N.Y., the son of Archibald and Margaret (Schmitt) Schmitt. Gene lived in New Jersey prior to moving to Maine in 1966. He worked for Inmont, until it closed and continued working part time as a consultant until December 2004. An avid bowler, Mr. Schmitt was among bowlers who represented Maine at the ABC Senior Championships in Reno, Nev. in 1997 and in Milwaukee, Wis. in 2002. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Schmitt, in 1992. He is survived by his children, Roberta Schmitt, Dorothy Best, Eugene Schmitt Jr., Maggi Berry, Edwin Schmitt and Ernest Schmitt; a sister, Evelyn VanZandt of Chalfont, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; five great-gran-dchildren. Visiting will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Roberts Funeral Home, 26 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Winthrop, with the Rev. Brian Blanchette, celebrant. Burial will follow in Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop.
