MILLINOCKET – Eugene S. Boddy, 90, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at a Dover-Foxcroft health facility. He was born Nov. 13, 1914, in Millinocket the third son and fourth child of William J. and Mary E. (Sutherland) Boddy. Gene was a prominent businessman in Millinocket for many years having been associated with his mother in the family business, Boddy’s Dairy. Later, he and his wife operated “The Creemy” for many years. When he retired in 1975, he was custodian at the Millinocket Middle School. Gene was an athlete, lettering in four sports at Stearns High School and continued his interest in schools and sports all his life. He served for nine years on the Millinocket School Board and did some substitute teaching during the war years in both Millinocket and East Millinocket schools. He was a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach, a basketball official, and helped out with the Stearns football teams. Some of his favorite pastimes were rug braiding, cooking, cribbage, and spending countless hours in his vegetable garden. He was a member and communicant of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and was sexton for many years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nadine (Tingley) Boddy; and their three children, Jean Marie Boddy-Johnston and husband, Edward F. Johnston, of Milford, Sheila Haynes and husband, Sandy, of Millinocket and William J. Boddy, and wife, Jean, of Lamoine; five grandchildren, Traci Remick and husband, Mark, of Trenton, William “John” of Otis, Erin Clark and husband, William, of Claremont, N.H., Joellen Duplisea and husband, Matthew, of Gorham, and Arran Haynes and companion, Jolene Chonko, of Washington, D.C.; three great-grandchildren, Megan and Leah Remick of Trenton and Liam Clark of Claremont, N.H.; his sister and her husband, Harriett and Allister Embleton; and brother-in-law, John Brunette, all of Millinocket; several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a special niece, Betty Maple of Ashland, Wis. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, William and Edwin; and sisters, Marie MacDonald and Hellas Brunette. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at St. Andrews’s Episcopal Church in Millinocket. The Rev. Dr. Lance Almeida will officiate. Spring burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery.
