FORT FAIRFIELD and EASTON – Mrs. Eva Gwendolyn Flewelling Mitchell, 85, died April 22, 2005, at a Caribou hospital, after a brief illness. She was born April 29, 1919, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Arthur V. and Gertrude (Baird) Flewelling. Gwendolyn graduated from Easton High School in 1939. She furthered her education and became a registered nurse working in both the Belfast and Presque Isle hospitals. She gave up her career to care for her parents in their home in Easton. Then she continued to help those around her including her terminally ill sister, Althea. At the age of 65, Gwen married Clark J. Mitchell on Jan. 7, 1983; who died in 1996. Gwen was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a brother, Fenton Flewelling; two sisters, Althea Saccuci and Gladys Bregman; and a special nephew, Arthur Gray. She is survived by two stepdaughters, Barbara Ireland and her husband, Roger, of Sherman, Conn. and Brenda Mitchell of Limerick. Gwen will be fondly and forever remembered especially by a nephew and his wife, Gerald and Marie (Morrow) Saccucci of Fort Fairfield; and their children, Marc Saccucci of Laurel, Md. and Kimberly Hitchcock and her husband, Darryl of Caribou; a close niece, Kathy Saccucci of Stockton Springs; a sister-in-law, Viola (Gray) Flewelling; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Beth Ann Black, of the Easton United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services. Interment will take place at the Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou, later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Gwendolyn to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
