WEST CHAPMAN and AUGUSTA – Eva L. Wood, 94, fell asleep in Christ, Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Graybirch, 37 Graybirch Dr., Augusta, where she has lived for the past five years. She was born Dec. 30, 1909, to the late David and Alvada (Briggs) Tingley of West Chapman. She graduated from Mapleton High School, Class of 1929. This past June she attended the alumni reunion as the oldest alumni celebrating her 75th reunion. She was a resident of West Chapman for 86 years. She was a member of the West Chapman Advent Christian Church and an active member of the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission Society and the Mapleton Extension and the Mapleton Senior Citizens Club. A lifelong volunteer, Eva gave many hours to Mapleton Elementary School library and the Presque Isle Nursing Home. She was predeceased in death by her husband, David and daughter, Linda; her brothers, Herbert, Robert and Walter; and two sisters, Dorothy Taylor and Gertrude Bragdon. She is survived by her children, Donald and Helen Wood of Prinevlle, Ore., Nadine and Neil Glascock of Wieser, Idaho, Marion and Charlie Shorey of Rison, Ark., Curtis and Lisa Wood of Louisville, Ky., Robert and Sandra Wood of Randolph, Arthur and Cecile Wood of Presque Isle and Pamela and Mike Gardner of St. Louis, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel and Chester Giggey of Mapleton, and Dora and Fred Longley of Brunswick. Eva was a lovely lady who never met a stranger. Many nieces, nephews and other young adults in the Mapleton area loved her like a grandmother. Her caring and giving have blessed many. She will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the West Chapman Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Kenneth Fox officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the West Chapman Advent Christian Church or the charity of your choice.
