BANGOR – Evan R. Cox, 81, died March 18, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Bangor, the son of Dr. James and Mary (Burns) Cox. He is survived by his wife, Joan Cox of Bangor; four children, James Cox and his wife, Suzanne, of Bangor, Evan R. Cox Jr. of Waltham, Mass., Mary and her husband, Eric Ilmi Muca, of Portland, Christine and her husband, Dave Szewczyk, of Bangor; one brother, Andrew Cox and his wife, Connie, of Milton, Mass.; one sister, Barbara VanItallie of Old Saybrook, Conn.; 11 grandchildren, Kathryn, Caroline, James, John Cox, Gulia, Ariana, Anastasia, Andrew Muca, Anne, John, Thomas Szewczyk; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James F. Cox; and his sister, Joan C. Eyerer. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York St., Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant.
