BREWER – Evelyn Mae (Cushing) Lackedy, 84, died Dec. 2, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 17, 1922, in Bucksport, the daughter of Raymond and Elsie (Saunders) Cushing. Evelyn was brought up in Bucksport and graduated from Bucksport High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Lackedy, in 1943. After retiring, they traveled extensively and located to Sebring, Fla. She returned to Maine in 1999, making her home with her son and eventually her final residence became the Ellen Leach Home in Brewer where staff and residents became an extended family. Evelyn enjoyed daily card games with her friends at Ellen Leach and her weekly games with Nancy, Bessie and Sheila. She continued to get together with Edwina and friends from the Bucksport 5 & 10. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family thanks the doctors at CancerCare, the nurses at Eastern Maine Medical Center, sixth floor, especially Michelle and Dr. Steele at family practice. Surviving are a son, Keith Lackedy and his wife, Connie, of Bradley; three grandchildren, Kim McCormick, Carol Lackedy and her fiance, Shawn Cowan, Chris Larrabee and her husband, Mike; four great-grandchildren, T.J. and Tyler McCormick, Brooke Cowan and Kayla Shaffer; one sister, Charlotte Bunker and her husband, Sterl, of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Raymond Cushing of Estes Park, Colo.; and a stepbrother, Ray Cushing and his wife, Lyn, of Rockport; two cousins, Pauline Bayer-Lally and Elizabeth Giard. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the North Bucksport Methodist Church, Route 15, Bucksport with the Rev. Rose Kreinke, presiding. Burial will be held after at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. Cremation arrangements by Cremation Basics, Inc., Bangor.
