PRESQUE ISLE – Evelyn M. McGowan, 88, wife of John W. McGowan who predeceased her in 1980, died Thursday Jan. 5, 2006, at a Presque Isle nursing home. She was born July 5, 1917 in Millinocket, the daughter of Ray and Lena (Perrow) Merritt. Evelyn worked as a cashier for 20 years at the Braden Theater and after that was employed at Maine National Bank and Aroostook Trust Co. as a teller, retiring in 1990. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins, also two sisters-in-law, Helen Michaud and Ruth Searway. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. A spring interment will take place at Ashland Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in Evelyn’s memory to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 813, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
