JONESPORT – Evelyn (Whitney) Noyes, 94, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Sunrise Care Facility. She was born April 6, 1912, in Jonesport, the daughter of the late Wellington and Minnie (Woodward) Whitney. Evelyn was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. She was a member of the Jonesboro Union Church and an honorary member of the church auxiliary. Evelyn worked as a sales clerk for many years at Mackenzie’s Market, Bridgham’s Store and Look Brother’s Store. One of her favorite pastimes was eating fried clams and visiting with friends at the Whitehouse Restaurant. Prior to her death, Evelyn held the Boston Post Cane, signifying the oldest resident of the town of Jonesboro. She was predeceased by her husband, H. Norman Noyes in 1976; and a sister, Leona W. Look. Family members include two sons, Wellington “Billy” Noyes and his wife, Wanda, of Jonesboro and Elliott Noyes and his wife, Julie, of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Nancy (Noyes) Emery and her husband, Douglas, of Jonesboro, Lisa Noyes of Nashville, Tenn., Nathan Noyes of Jonesboro, Leigh Noyes and his wife, Danielle, of Amesbury, Mass., Steven Noyes of Naples, Fla., Elizabeth (Noyes) Stone and her husband, Jeremy, of Naples, Fla., and Dan Noyes and his wife, Hilary, of Marco Island, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Devon and Seth Emery, Ashley and Brianne Noyes, Benjamin Noyes, Charlize and Piper Noyes and Cayla Stone; a sister, Vivian W. Burke of Bangor; several nieces nephews and cousins. At her request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in early summer at Forest Hill Cemetery, Jonesboro. Evelyn wanted to be remembered by these words – Remember me with laughter and smiles that’s the way I remember you all. But if you remember me with tears, you don’t remember me at all.
