SURRY – Everett W. (Darby) Wood, 90, died May 30, 2004, at Maine General Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center in Augusta. He was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Surry, the son of Harry Howard and Sarah Elizabeth (Jarvis) Wood. He was a resident of the Blue Hill and Surry area until the last six years when they made their home in South China, Maine. Everett attended schools in Surry and Ellsworth. He was a boat builder, employed for more than 30 years at Webbers Cove Boat Yard in East Blue Hill, and was also a finish carpenter. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Blue Hill. Everett is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Eleanor M. Nevells Wood; sons, Virgil E. Wood and his wife, Renee, of East Millinocket, Edwin H. Wood and his wife, Nancy, of Old Lyme, Conn.; daughter, Elaine E. Wood Wardwell and her husband, John, of South China; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edmund and Ray. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Emily Taylor officiating. The family will greet people for a time of refreshment and fellowship in the reception room concluding the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Everett’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association-Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.
