BEALS – Farrell Leroy Lenfestey, 90, went to be with the Lord Aug. 23, 2006, from the Sentry Hill Nursing Home in York. He was born Dec. 11, 1915, in Beals, son of Charles and Greta (Beal) Lenfestey. He shared beautiful, childhood memories of growing up on the family farm in Beals. He graduated from Beals High School, Class in 1933, valedictorian of his class and continued his education through reading and study. He was devoted to his God and his family, and his church. He was an elder in the Community of Christ for many years serving as pastor of Beals Congregation for 30 years and then in Corea for another three years. He was ordained to the office of evangelist/patriarch in 1984 and was active in the capacity for 10 years, at which time he continued ministry as a mentor to younger priesthood members. He had been known and loved over the years by many throughout the world church. He enjoyed taking visiting ministers and their families out in his lobster boat for a day of lobster fishing, picnics and fun. He was a self-employed lobsterman from his teenage years until his late 70s. He was co-founder and first vice president of the Maine Lobsterman’s Association many years ago. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He in turn demonstrated the love of Christ toward everyone in his daily life. He loved children and youth and was always encouraging young people to be their best. He enjoyed many summers with family at their camp on Nat’s Head at Slate Island Cove. He served for a time on the Boy Scout Council for the area. He also was involved with the early planning stages of Downeast Community Hospital, Machias. He was the chapel speaker at the first Maine festival at Bowdoin College, Brunswick. He was a charter member of the Beals Historical Society. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Myrtle (Beal) Lenfestey; two daughters, Sylvia (Lenfestey) Peabody and her husband, Earl, of Rochester, N.H., and Carolyn (Lenfestey) Gordon and her husband, Jack, of Eliot; four grandchildren, Cheryl (Peabody) Szacik and her husband, Peter, of Madbury, N.H., Capt. Ronald Peabody of Bristol, Amy (Gordon) Fuller and her husband, Michael, of North Berwick and Geoffrey Gordon and his wife, Kathy, of Eliot; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Farrell Gordon, Madelyn Beth Fuller and Kylie Ruth Gordon; three great-stepgrandchildren, Kaitlin, Daniel and Meghan Szacik; brothers-in-law, Charles Beal, Esten Beal Jr. and his wife, Patty and Elmer C. Beal and his wife, Marion, all of Beals; and special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Wilfred Merton Lenfestey, who died at age 15; and two sisters, Leila (Lenfestey) Beal and Willavie (Lenfestey) Beal, all of Beals. Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Community of Christ Church, Beals. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Community of Christ Church. Burial will be held after at the Village Cemetery, Beals.
