BANGOR and MILBRIDGE Faustina (Mitchell) Flaherty, 87, passed away unexpectedly May 28, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Oct. 4, 1920, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Frank and Lizzie (Schoppe) Mitchell. She spent her younger years between Harrington, and living on a barge with her parents and grandparents in New York harbor, and traveling to the Great Lakes, a lifestyle she truly loved and never forgot. She graduated from Harrington High School in 1938. On December 15 of that year, she married Ronald Lee Flaherty and they had two daughters. After her family was grown, she worked many years as a certified nurses aide in various nursing homes and private duty. She was a member of Advent Christian Church, Marshville, for many, many years; a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Osceola Grange. She was an avid Red Sox fan, seldom missing a game on TV. The most of her lifetime was spent in Harrington, Cherryfield and Milbridge. For the past two years she had lived at Boyd Place, Bangor, where she enjoyed the company of many new friends and looked forward to the weekly bingo games and painting classes. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Jane Reynolds and her husband, Nathaniel, of Winterport, and Rita M. Hinkle and her husband, Edward, of Johnstown, N.Y.; grandchildren, Teresa Reynolds of Bucksport and her daughter, Bethany, of Newburgh, Ronnie Hinkle and his wife, Lisa, and their son, Kelly, of Addison, Edward Hinkle and his wife, Lori, and their children, Nicholas and Kristin, of Johnstown, N.Y., and Ivan Hinkle of Johnstown, N.Y. She is also survived by Laura of Auburn and her son, Levi of Hampden, Sara, Jesse, Cody and Kristopher of Winterport, children of her late granddaughter, Janie Reynolds; her sister-in-law, Vera Mitchell of Brewer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 49 years; her three brothers, William, Sidney and Leonell; and her sister, Mabel Curtis. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. A graveside service will be celebrated 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Forest Hills Cemetery, Harrington, with the Rev.
