BREWER – Faye K. Adams, 72, died April 6, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous 10-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Faye was born April 20, 1935, in St. John, New Brunswick, the daughter of the late Walter William and Mary M. (Durick) Bell. Faye spent her childhood growing up in Canada and became a citizen of the U.S. in 1961. She decided on a career in nursing and obtained her licensed practical nursing diploma from local schools and worked initially at James Taylor Hospital, Bangor. She went on to obtain her registered nursing license in 1980 and worked for more than 25 years on the maternity ward at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She worked the third shift for several years so she could spend more time with her children as a single parent. She married Carroll B. Adams, then retired from nursing in 1997 and moved to Brewer. Refusing to let the disease get the best of her, Faye went on living her life with her new husband, traveling, shopping and gardening. She absolutely loved interior decorating, especially her own home. It was not uncommon to find Faye had rearranged her home from one visit to the next. She loved to shop and work on her garden. Faye handled her worsening physical condition with much grace and dignity and without complaint. It wasn’t until her condition finally took away her ability to drive and live independently that Faye made the decision to be with God. She could have lived longer but life dependant on others was not Faye’s style – her tremendous pride would not allow it. In her last days, she displayed a wondrous sense of humor in her attempt to make her departure easier on her family, which it did. Faye led her life with a gentle kindness and strong independence and did so right up to her death, always remaining the “driver of the bus.” She will be greatly missed. Faye is survived by her lov-ing husband, Carroll; and four children, Brian J. McQuarrie of West Jefferson, N.C., David A. McQuarrie and his wife, Mary, of Syracuse, N.Y., Susan A. Hughes of Brewer, and “Danny” M. McQuarrie and wife, Joanne, of Brewer. Faye will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren, whom she equally adored, Sarah, Matthew, Emily, Joshua, Jamie and Jenna; by her special sister, Doreen Fairley of Maryland; and her brother, Peter Bell of Connecticut. Faye was predeceased by her other brothers, James Bell of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Thomas Bell of Millinocket. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. A gathering with refreshments celebrating Faye’s life will be held after in the church hall. Interment will be held after the celebration at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, for family and close friends. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor.
