CARIBOU and FORT FAIRFIELD – Fern D. Hitchcock, 80, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 21, 2003, at a Caribou nursing facility, after a long illness. She was born March 16, 1923, at Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William S. and Annie M. (Clark) Hitchcock. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Fairfield. Fern was employed by the former Fort Fairfield Woolworth for many years, taught Sunday school at the Bethel Baptist Church and was also a member of several church groups. She enjoyed painting, sewing, crocheting and crafts. In addition to her parents, Fern was predeceased by five brothers, Carl, Vernon, Ivan, Clyde and Donald Hitchcock; one sister, Eva M. Hitchcock. She is survived by two sisters, Velma Clark of Concord, N.H. and Doris E. Parker of Brewer; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 10 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
