FERNE G. CALDWELL CARIBOU and FORT FAIR-FIELD – Mrs. Ferne G. Caldwell, 74, wife of Emery L. “Blaise” Caldwell, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Lecanto, Fla., after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 8, 1929, at California Settlement, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Walter and Myrtle (Giggey) Pelkey. She attended Grand Falls, New Brunswick schools, studied cosmetology and horticulture and owned and operated Ferne’s Beauty Shop and Caldwell’s Florist in Fort Fairfield for many years. She was married to Emery L. “Blaise” Caldwell on Dec. 27, 1954, and was a member of the Wesleyan Church, Fort Fairfield. In addition to her parents, Ferne was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth, George and Joe Pelkey; one sister, Elsie Brayall; and a son-in-law, Cary Tarbox. She is survived by her husband, “Blaise” of Caribou; four daughters and sons-in-law, Emily Tarbox of Fort Fairfield, Alta and Roger Anderson of Boynton Beach, Fla., Avis and David Clark of Meriden, Conn., Judy and Michael Findlen of Lecanto, Fla.; two brothers, Robert and Ted Pelkey and one sister, Helen O’Neal, all of California Settlement, New Brunswick, Canada; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at the Wesleyan Church, Wesleyan St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Wesley McNeal and the Rev. Harry Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the Wesleyan Church reception area, immediately following the interment service.
