MILLINOCKET – Ferne Irene (Currie) Given, beloved wife of the late Percy M. Given, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Millinocket Regional Hospital. She was 99 years old. Ferne was born Jan. 5, 1909, in Douglas, New Brunswick, to Brock Allan and Stella McGibbon (Grant) Currie. Ferne came to the United States when she was three years old on a horse drawn wagon and settled in Mars Hill. She later moved to Crystal and then Island Falls. She met and married Percy and had two children, Reginald and Donna. Percy left farming in 1942 to work on the railroad and moved the family to Millinocket. Ferne was very active in the Eastern Star, Plus & Minus and First Congregational Church of Millinocket. She also played the piano and lived independently for most of her 99 years. She loved her family and was very proud of being a great-great-grandmother. Ferne is survived by her daughter, Donna Budreau and her husband, Ronald, of Millinocket; six grandchildren, Janelle Martin and her husband, Michael, of Patten, Julie Nason and her husband, Drew, of Lancaster, N.H., Terry Given, Lawrence Given and his wife, Mary, Robin Knowlton, and Cynthia Morneault and her husband, Terry, all of Millinocket; 12 great-grandchildren, Mark Martin of Cape Jellison, Michelle Martin of Montana, Katherine and Janessa Nason of Lancaster, N.H., Alaina Nason, Kama Lane and her husband, Douglas, Brandy Given, Abby Given, Bryan Morneault, Amy Barnes and her husband, Brian, all of Millinocket, Carrie Knowlton of Denmark and Jen-nifer Mewes and her husband, James, of Iowa; five great-great-grandchildren, Morgan – Renee, Drew and Sydney, all of Millinocket and Tristan and Ellie of Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Given of Millinocket; a sister, Janet Dickey and her husband, Everett, of Clinton and Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Percy M. Given; a son, Reginald Given; great-grandson, Matthew Martin; sisters, Miriam Keezer and Ann Coffin; and brothers, Wendall Currie, William Currie, Douglas Currie and Grant Currie. At Ferne’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at First Congregational Church of Millinocket, 274 Katahdin Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Carolyn Bradley, pastor, officiating.
