ELLSWORTH – Florence Linscott, 89, died Oct. 26, 2007, at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor. She was born Feb. 24, 1918, in North Penobscot, the sixth of seven children to Harland Delmont and Ida Ursula (Soper) Cunningham. Florence attended Clark High School, Penobscot. She moved to Ellsworth in the early 1940s and worked for Meader’s Nursing Home, the Beal family and Beal’s Jewelry Store prior to her marriage Oct. 11, 1947, to Edgar Eugene Fox Jr. in Lewiston. They were divorced in 1955 and Aug. 18, 1962, she married Lyman West Linscott in Ellsworth. They were married until Lyman’s death, July 27, 1980. After her divorce, she went to work at J.J. Newbury’s, Main Street, Ellsworth, as a part-time substitute. She stayed on and became a fixture on the lunch counter for 40 years, until her retirement in 1995. In her later years, she would often meet people who would say they would like to have one of her “pink milkshakes” or hot dogs or, her specialty, a coffee soda. She watched a generation or more of Ellsworth grow up and remembered many of them fondly. During her retirement, she enjoyed knitting mittens for the Girl Scouts mitten tree in the Christmas Parade. Last year she donated 200 pair of mittens and this year 150 pair. She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Ida (Fox) Clemons and husband, Marcus Sr., of Hancock; her beloved grandsons, Bryant Keith Clemons and fianc?e, Deana Dyer, of Hancock, Marcus William Clemons Jr. of Palm Bay, Fla., and Wade Cameron Clemons of Blue Hill; by her great grandson, Michael-Anthony Edgar Clemons of Hancock, whom she adored; and her great grandson-to-be, Kevin Dyer of Hancock.
