BRIDGTON – Florence M. Ward, 83, of Bridgton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Bridgton Hospital. She was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Kingsbury Plantation the daughter of Henry and Edith (Leavitt) Cowette. She married Lester O. Ward in 1940; he died in 1990. She lived in Bridgton for more than 45 years. She worked in the Bridgton Dress Shop for several years. She always took pride in her beautiful vegetable garden and provided friends and family with its bountiful harvest. She also had a “green thumb” with other plants and flowers. For several years Florence and her husband were caretakers of a few summer cottages in the Bridgton area. She continued with the care of the cottages after her husband’s death. Florence was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; always tending to others needs before her own. She and her husband spent a lot of time with their grandchildren while they were growing up, providing them with many cherished memories. In recent past years she enjoyed the friendships and outings with a wonderful group of friends fondly referred to as the “Butterfly Girls”. Survivors include her son, Jeffrey W. Ward Sr. and wife, Virginia, of Alfred; a sister, Maxine Curty of Dexter; a grandson, Jeffrey W. Ward Jr. and Donna of Sanford; a granddaughter, Katherine LeBrun and husband, Erik, of Kennebunkport; great-grand-daughters, Hannah, Abigail and Margaret LeBrun; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, and one hour before the funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, with Rev. Mark Tanner officiating at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association Maine Affiliate, Inc., 343 Gorham Rd., So.
