HOWLAND – Forrest A. Harris Jr., 74, husband of Birgit, went to be with the Lord, Oct. 23, 2006. He was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Howland, the son of Celia (Veino) and Forrest A. Harris Sr. Forrest graduated from Howland High School, Class of 1951. He continued his education in St. Louis, where he graduated and received certification in electronics and x-ray technology. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and France. It was in France that he met and married his wife, Birgit. He enjoyed a successful career in x-ray sales and service for Siemens Corporation, working in the Missouri and Massachusetts districts. In later years, he managed x-ray sales and service in Maine for Schiring X-ray Corporation. Forrest enjoyed fishing, hunting and baseball throughout his youth and early adult life. He developed a passion and love for flying, obtaining his private pilot’s license. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He served on the Penobscot Valley Hospital Board of Directors, the Howland Planning Board and the Howland Board of Selectmen. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Howland, for years. Most recently, he worshipped at Calvary Chapel, Orrington. He belonged to Composite Lodge No. 168, where he served as treasurer. He was predeceased by a son, Scott; and two brothers, Gerald and Doug. In addition to his wife, Birgit, he is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife, Patra, of Howland and Alan of South Berwick; a granddaughter, Sarah Harris of Howland; three grandsons, Chris Harris of Howland, Billy and Bobby Harris of South Berwick; a sister, Hope and her husband, Birchum Oldenburgh, of Lincoln; a brother, James Harris of Baileyville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; a longtime childhood friend, Cliff Fleming; and a special friend, Pastor Dave “Doc” Uber. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home with the Rev. David Uber officiating. Interment will be in Howland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
